Just How Much Money Have People Made with Huntercoin?

First of all, what is Huntercoin?

Huntercoin was the world’s first blockchain and decentralised strategy MMO game (if we ignore Satoshi Dice and some other gambling games that used Bitcoin, but didn’t run on the blockchain itself).

At the time it was released in February 2014, every other altcoin was a clone of Bitcoin with only small parameter changes. Apart from Namecoin, Huntercoin was the only other innovative project at the time.

Huntercoin received no funding and was developed as an experiment to test how well a blockchain network could handle 10s of thousands of players moving around a map in a decentralised blockchain world. The game mechanics were not thought through and support was only destined for 1 year.

In Huntercoin the main objective is to collect coins on a map and kill other players. The coins collected and banked in the game appear in your wallet just like bitcoin. The entire history of the game world and where those coins came from are stored forever on a decentralised blockchain.

So, just how much have people made?

The numbers below reflect:

  • Time since HUC was listed on an exchange
  • Only coins that players gathered in the game itself, and not coins from hardware miners
  • USD prices per day on weighted averages

Huntercoin began in September 2013 and launched in early 2014. It was listed on Poloniex on February 14th, 2014.

Players hauled in their most profitable day on February 26th, 2014 with a whopping $11,070 when bitcoin was only around $500~$800.

There were down days too. Over 4 years ago on January 18th, 2015 players pulled in a measly $11.

But there were also many highly profitable days. The next peak for HUC was $6,521 on January 13th, 2018.

In the last year the best day was 1 year ago on March 7th, 2018 with $1,428.

And in the last 3 years, players have taken home $830,837 from Huntercoin.

All tallied, between its 2014 launch on Poloniex and March 5th, 2019, players raked in an astounding $1,282,417!

All information is available publicly on Poloniex through their API here with Bitcoin historical price information available here.

In Huntercoin, 9 out of 10 coins were collected by players every block until Feb 2018 of which it was then halved to 4.5 coins per block of 5 coins.

The numbers are calculated based on the amount of HUC “Human Mined” a day and its weighted average US dollar value for that day. Coins mined through traditional hardware mining were not counted.
